Moving around

Konstanz is a German city in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg located on the southern edge of Lake Konstanz and bordering Switzerland. It is the largest and most densely populated city of this great lake, powered by the Rhine River and shared with two other countries: Switzerland and Austria

Nestled on the largest lake in Germany, Konstanz has been home to the only bridge that crosses the Rhine River for many years. The old town, which is one of Konstanz's main attractions, holds the city's famous cathedral, originally dating back to the 7th century. Due to a border issue, Konstanz is located on a Swiss land mass, with the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen in close proximity.

Places of interest:

  • Konstanz Cathedral: a millenary temple in which a great variety of architectural styles can be found and which is on the route of the Camino de Santiago (2340 km from the Galician city).
  • The harbour: where the controversial symbol of the city is located. A rotating 9-meter statue representing Imperia.
  • The old town: where it is located the medieval Rheintor and Pulverturm gates, the original Kaiserbrunnen (the imperial fountain), the Council House (a place from the time of the event where events and conferences are held) and the Rathaus (town hall).
  • Mainau: a small island connected to the city of Konstanz by a bridge and known as the island of flowers.
