Moving Around

Seville is the fourth most populous city in Spain and the capital of Andalusia. Its old town, with 3.9 km², is the largest in Spain and the sixth largest in Europe, after cities like Rome, Naples, Venice and Florence.

Seville is a city that leaves its mark and that many agree in defining as special. It may be because of the grandeur of its monuments or the charm of popular neighborhoods like Triana.

It may be due to the scent of jasmine in its squares or the Spanish guitar music that can be heard in its streets. Some argue that it is the tradition of its festivals and many are convinced that its tapas are the real culprits.

Things to do and see

The list is long, but here’s a selection of the essential things you need to do in Seville.

  • The Cathedral of Seville is one of the largest Gothic temples in the world. Imposing and beautiful, it is located in the heart of the city and is worth seeing just to admire its facade. Next to the Cathedral, the Giralda tower serves as a bell tower and watches over the city of Seville from its 104 meters high.
  • Plaza de España: It has a circular shape and consists of several canals through which you can navigate in small boats. There are four bridges symbolizing the ancient kingdoms of Spain, as well as arcades, fountains and its famous 48 benches representing the Spanish provinces.
  • Maria Luisa Park: Opposite the Plaza de España is the most important park in Seville, the great green lung of the city, which has been declared of Cultural Interest.
  • The Torre del Oro: They call it the “pretty girl of Seville”. Located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, it was built in the thirteenth century to reinforce the military defenses of the city.
  • The Real Alcazar of Seville: It is located right next to the Cathedral and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
