#INTERECT Presentation

Valencia,  Spain 22nd-23rd November 2021

The hybrid International Conference on Frontiers in Electrocatalytic Transformations (INTERECT) took place from Monday 22nd to Tuesday 23rd 2022 of November in Valencia (Spain) and online.

This was a hybrid conference that presented interactive discussions between different disciplines of Electrochemical Energy Storage and Transformations, covering electrochemical synthesis from an experimental and theoretical viewpoint, as well as in situ studies to uncover reaction mechanisms and surface reconstructuring.

This event allowed in person interaction, exchange of knowledge and discussions about the most recent developments among researchers, which was not possible since the start of the pandemic. This conference was all about interaction: interaction between electrodes and reactants, interaction between molecules for electrochemical synthesis, interaction of light with molecules to uncover reaction mechanisms, interaction between experiments and theory, but most importantly, interaction among scientists.

In general, the Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion community aims at the development of better and more efficient catalysts and processes for the use of (renewable) electricity to form or break chemical bonds. This is closely associated with the development of novel renewable energy solutions, such as energy storage (electrolyzers), energy conversion (fuel cells and batteries) and chemical production (CO2 reduction, biomass conversion, oxidation reactions and ammonia synthesis). However, efficient interaction between the different disciplines (electrochemical synthetic chemists, theoreticians and engineers) is needed in order to develop common technologies that aid the path toward a sustainable future. The main goal of this hybrid INTERECT conference was to connect the different disciplines within the Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion community.

We strongly encouraged abstract submission for contributed talks for all sessions, as well as submission of contributions for the Poster session, which allowed for a wide variety of researchers to share their exciting work.

We hoped that organizing such a hybrid conference partially in person again strengthened the interactions within the electrocatalysis community.
