The Bulk Photovoltaic Effect in the Noncentrosymmetric Crystals (BPE) was experimentally discovered in 1970 [1] and phenomenologically explained in [2, 3]. The BPE is connected with two microscopic mechanisms: ballistic [2, 3] and shift [4, 5]. In spite of high voltage, generated by BPE, wich could exceed energy gap, the energy conversion efficiency (ECE) of BPE in the bulk crystals is extremely small(10-5 -10-6)%. It was recently shown, that at the nanoscale the ECE of this effect is increased by many orders of value [6]. In [7] was shown, that the BPE in pin regime is largely increased.
In the present talk we give the review of main properties and theory of BPE and consider the possibilities of its application in solar harvesting, wich are revealed at the last time.
