Recently, organic-inorganic perovskites were identified as promising absorbers for solar cells, In the four years since, the performance of the perovskite based solar cells has improved rapidly to reach efficiencies above 20 %. We developed metal oxide free methylammonium lead iodide perovskite cells with high power conversion efficiencies and without hysterisis prepared using vacuum based deposition processes. Also we have shown that these devices operate as LEDs when a voltage is applied. This feature has been used to study the charge recombination processes in the diode. We will present recent developments in these vacuum deposited metal oxide free perovskite solar cells, such as semitransparent, flexible and large are cells as well as insight into their operational mechanism.
