Since the first report in 1991, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been recognized as a promising alternative to commercial silicon solar cells due to their low fabrication cost and relatively high conversion efficiency. A typical DSSC contains a sensitized-TiO2 photoanode, a liquid electrolyte and a platinium plate conter electrrode. However, DSSC based on liuqid electrolyte have many pratical problems such as leakage, desorption of dye, erosion of electrode, which blocks its rapid commercial application. Replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid-state medium seems to be a solution to these problems. Upto now, the highest efficiency up to 16.2% has been attained with the solid-state DSSCs assembling with a lead iodide perovskite inorganic sensitizers and 7.2% with a new organic D-pai-A dye. Unfortunately, the counter electrode of the conversional all-solid-state DSSC is made by evaporating Au or other noble metals, which needs not only expensive noble metals but also costly equipment for high vacuum. Obviously, a low-cost counter electrode materials and simple technology expects to be developed urgently. With the mesoscopic carbon counter electrode, we developed a new monolithic solid-state mesoscopic solar cells with smpler manufacturing process based on full screen printing technology with a certificed efficiency of 12.84%, which offers a promising prospect for its commerical application.
