Small perturbation techniques constitute a wide family of tools for the characterization of solar energy conversion devices such as perovskite solar cells for solar energy conversion. Three main small perturbation methods frequently used in the area of solar energy conversion materials are impedance spectroscopy (IS), intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) and intensity-modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS). The first one consists of applying a small voltage perturbation and measuring modulated extracted current. The second one consists of applying the perturbation to the illumination and measuring the modulated extracted current. The third one consists of applying the perturbation to the illumination, too, but this time measuring the modulated extracted photovoltage.
In this work, we use the above mentioned techniques to characterise perovskite solar cells with the configuration of carbon contacts. This type of perovskite solar cells allow us to change the thickness of the perovskite layer without changing contacts, thus allowing us to see the changes in the different spectra and check how this affect their evolution. We show a variety of spectra showing inductive loops and negative capacitances.
